Selenium is a comprehensive project consisting of a range of tools and libraries that support and enable Web browser automation.

 

It provides extensions for simulating user interactions with browsers, a distributed server for distributing browser instances, and infrastructure for implementing the W3C WebDriver specification. This allows you to write interchangeable code for all major Web browsers.

Appium is an open-source mobile automation testing tool that supports UI automation across various platforms, including mobile, Web, desktop, and smart TV applications.

 

It allows you to write tests for native apps, hybrid apps, and mobile Web apps using a single API, regardless of the platform on which the app runs. Appium supports multiple programming languages, such as Java, Python, and JavaScript, providing great flexibility for developers and testers.

 

You do not need to modify your mobile application or add any extra components. This means you can perform automated testing without changing how your mobile application works.

Appium is an extension of Selenium WebDriver because it also follows W3C standards, also known as the WebDriver specification. For Web applications, almost all browsers implement automation capabilities by following the WebDriver specification.
