1. Project Overview
Layui 2.8.0 Officially Released: A Return to Simplicity
On April 24, 2023, Layui released version 2.8.0 and launched a new documentation site. This marks a return to simplicity and a continuation of its original spirit. However, we still stand by the position expressed in our announcement two years ago: we continue to recommend embracing mainstream technologies and maintaining an endless passion for cutting-edge technology, qualities that every developer should possess. Layui's role is to fill the relatively small gaps outside the mainstream. Although Layui is not a mainstream frontend framework, it is no longer just the author's personal project. It belongs to everyone who continues to use it. It still supports many projects and represents the work of many people. As open-source creators, we should stand by those who remain committed to it.
In the future, Layui will continue to accompany everyone who loves it as we explore and validate the feasibility of the Layui development model together.
Layui is an open-source Web UI component library that uses its own lightweight modular specification and follows the native HTML/CSS/JavaScript development model. It is easy to learn and ready to use. Its style is simple and lightweight, yet elegant and rich in detail. Every aspect, including its documentation, has been carefully refined, making it ideal for rapidly building web interfaces. Layui differs from mainstream frontend frameworks, but it does not go against the grain. Instead, it embraces the philosophy of returning to simplicity. More precisely, it is designed for pragmatic developers who value simplicity. There is no need to get involved with various build tools; simply work directly with the browser to implement the elements and interactions required by a page.

4. Feature Overview
Breaking with the Old and Building the New
On October 14, 2016, Layui released its 1.0.0 first version, which was widely used across countless Web platforms over the following years.
On October 13, 2021, Layui published an announcement (introduction) about taking down its original official website and migrating its documentation site to Gitee Pages. Community operations and routine maintenance were also fully transferred to the Gitee and GitHub platforms. The announcement also encouraged developers to embrace other better mainstream frameworks, leading many people to mistakenly believe that Layui had stopped being maintained. In fact, Layui has remained active on both GitHub and Gitee ever since, and has never actually stopped receiving updates. It has continued to evolve from the 2.6.8 version released at that time to the latest version available today.
